Home Study

  • The flexible, home study format allows delegates to study at their own pace.
  • Comprehensive course materials - including guidance notes, course syllabus textbooks and assignments booklets - are provided at the start of the course.
  • The course is entirely self-contained, so there is no need for external referencing out with the comprehensive course manuals.
  • Any delegates who wish to carry out further studies will have access to the law collections for reference at the renowned Andersonian Library, the University of Strathclyde.

  • The course is structured into a series of modules and corresponding written assignments which must be completed in numerical order.
  • Tutor support is available throughout the programme. Delegates can contact the central administration team at any time for guidance and feedback regarding the courses.
  • Assignments are submitted to the course tutor either via email or in pre-paid envelopes provided at the outset of the course.
  • The assignments are marked promptly by the expert tutors, who provide comprehensive feedback where necessary.
  • Once all assignments are successfully completed, delegates will undertake a final written exam, either in their own offices at a date and time of their convenience, or at a formal examination diet, held quarterly in a central location in Glasgow.
  • The course registration is for eighteen months.
  • There is no minimum time for completion so if delegates have the time to commit to the course they can complete it and be qualified in as little as two months.
  • On successfully completion of the qualification, students will receive a Specialist Paralegal Qualification at a graduation ceremony held at the prestigious Barony Hall, the University of Strathclyde.

In-House

  • For groups of 3 or more, delivery of one of the qualifications can be done at your firm’s place of business.
  • Depending on the qualification chosen and your requirements, the course can be taught over 3 or 4 full days and can be a cost effective alternative when you have at least 3 delegates who all wish to study the same qualification.
  • In addition, we are highly experienced in tailoring the training to take into consideration your own unique processes and procedures.
  • Organisations who have had their support staff trained in-house have found it to be a highly effective and economical method of training.

An example of a course that was recently put together for a client is as follows:
We were approached by the busy debt recovery team of a Housing Association. With a large workload which included a number of difficult cases, they required comprehensive training on current practice and procedure, but were unable to devote more than a couple of hours away from their desk at any one time. Some members of the team had not studied for many years and were keen to tap into the support that learning together can provide. Their team leader was also keen to ensure that the training was as cost effective as possible.

We tailored a package of paralegal training in debt recovery at a price which represented a substantial reduction on studying the qualification by distance learning. Our tutor presented the course at the team’s workplace in the form of weekly two hour sessions over seven weeks and less than a month after the final session, following the successful completion of the exam, each member of the team became a qualified paralegal in debt recovery. The team are now very much looking forward to celebrating their achievement at their graduation ceremony at Strathclyde University later this year.

Central Law Training and the University of Strathclyde are working together to secure access to different levels of funding for the Specialist Paralegal Qualification. All external sources of funding will be considered on application to the courses.

ILA Funding
Application pending - please call 0141 225 6700 for more details if you currently qualify for ILA Funding.

Flexible Training Opportunities Fund from Skills Development Scotland
The Flexible Training Opportunities Fund aims to help Scottish organisations with up to 150 employees become more resilient and successful. Funding covers 50% of the cost of the training opportunity, or £500 (whichever is the lesser) - up to a maximum of ten training opportunities and £5,000 per employer.

CLT has been advised by SDS that Specialist Paralegal Qualifications could, subject to an application, qualify for the funding:
e.g. An employer wishing employees to undertake the Specialist Paralegal Qualification from CLT and Strathclyde University will as standard pay the fee. The employer can at the same time apply for £500 funding for one paralegal, or £5,000 for up to ten paralegals. Within five days the employer will find out from SDS whether application has been successful.
