Both Paralegal Qualifications offered by CLT aim to provide the legal secretary/paralegal or support staff with a recognisable academic qualification
The BTEC Qualification is studied via online distance learning materials. You will also benefit from tutor support and self assessment exercises to keep you on track throughout your studies. Each of the qualifications has six units. Following each unit there will be a series of Multiple Choice Questions online, allowing you to check your understanding of the areas covered. The multiple choice questions are not compulsory, however we do recommend learners complete them for their own assessment purposes.
The qualification is assessed by way of two assignments, which are delivered after the completion of units three and six. These will be assessed and feedback given to you by the assessors within 30 working days, you will be graded either as “competent” or “not yet ready”. Your file will then be passed to Edexel for verification and issue of certificate if you are graded as “competent”.
The UWE Specialist Paralegal Qualification is also taught by distance learning. Comprehensive course materials are provided at the start of the course, which contain sample assignment questions and answers to provide an overview of how answers should be submitted. The programme is structured into a series of modules and corresponding assignments which must be completed in numerical order. Assignments are submitted to the course tutor either via email or in the pre-paid envelopes provided. Once all assignments are successfully completed, delegates will undertake a final exam, normally in their own offices, or alternatively at biannual exam diets in London or Birmingham.
The BTEC Qualification
Each unit takes approximately 40 hours to complete, but the time you spend studying will depend on your knowledge levels when you begin the qualification. It is envisaged that learners complete one unit per month.
The UWE Specialist Qualification
We recommend that each assignment should take between 2-3 hours to complete but there is no recommended period for studying. Time taken to complete an assignment very much depends upon the time a delegate can dedicate.
The BTEC Qualification
Your tutor support and login details will be active for 6 months from commencing on the programme. However if you wish to complete the course in less time, this is easily achievable.
The UWE Specialist Qualification
The course registration is for 18 months. There is no minimum time for completion so if delegates have the time to commit to the course they can complete it and be qualified in as little as 2-3 months.
The BTEC Qualification
None at all, the course is designed to bring learners from a basic knowledge to a good foundation level before deciding to further their studies with the UWE Specialist Qualification.
The UWE Specialist QualificationDelegates should have a background in a legal environment e.g. Legal secretaries; Paralegals; H.R. Practitioners; Local government employees; Court staff; Police file managers; Claims handlers; Will writers; Company and commercial staff; Legal assistants transferring to another area of law and Solicitors requiring to update their knowledge.
There is a booking form attached to the brochure for the Paralegal Qualifications. The booking form explains the terms and conditions of booking and asks for all of the details we require to enable us to process your booking correctly. You may contact the Training Coordinator via telephone to express an interest in the course and discuss any questions you may have.
A £100 deposit is required for non-CLT members on both courses.
There is an option to pay by standing order over a 6-month period for the UWE Specialist Qualification and over 4 months for the BTEC Qualification. We at CLT are keen to do all we can to assist delegates to pay for their course in the most manageable way. All we ask is that the course is paid for in full by the time the delegate is ready to sit their final exam, or in the case of the BTEC Qualification – the expiry of their 6 month registration period. If you have any questions please contact the Paralegal Training Department on 0141 225 6706.
The Paralegal Training Coordinator can be contacted by telephone on 0141 225 6700 or by email – englishparalegal@centlaw.com.
The home study courses are available continuously throughout the year allowing you to enrol at any time.
The BTEC Qualification
Your login details are active for 6 months from receipt of your booking form and deposit payment, so you can access the materials as soon as possible.
The UWE Specialist Qualification
The course materials will be dispatched to you by special delivery within 5-10 working days of your booking and payment arriving at CLT.
The materials for both courses are designed to be entirely self-contained, so you will be provided with all the information you need to enable you to complete the course. If these tasks are carried out, there will be no need to attend any other courses to help you complete the course. Please see our Continual Professional Development (CPD) pages for more information on how CLT can help further your knowledge in your chosen field of law.
The course tutors are all experienced trainers, assessors and practitioners. Being experts in their field allows you to draw on their invaluable knowledge and skills.
The tutors are keen to help you and answer any questions you may have. Emails are used to ensure the assessors address your questions fully and clearly, allowing you to refer back to the comments made as and when necessary.
If you would like to take more than one Paralegal Qualification then you can do so. We at CLT will fully support delegates who decide to undertake more than one course at once. For multiple bookings, we can also offer further discounts.
If you experience any problems, please contact the Paralegal Training Department on 0141 225 6700 who will be happy to discuss them with you.
